I finished my last trip to Alaska for work last weekend. Finally, I feel like I can place more energy into projects I’ve wanted to do for the past four years, including regular blogging.
Project #1: Tackling the vegetable garden that only grew weeds. Being home before the end of May gives me the opportunity to finally bring my wallowing garden cleaned out before the johnson grass turns the space into a jungle.

It may take a while but it’s a start.
Project #2: BEES! I have wanted honey bees for years. Jim Bob has been talking about a beekeeper he works with and Kathy visited Webb Acres last month. We identified a location and she suggested where and what supplies to buy.
We need at least six hives for our 5 acres to receive an Ag exemption, a lofty goal for newbies. Our mentor, Kathy, says we can manage it so we are going for it. Jim Bob spent his spring break putting our hives together and the bees should be here by the end of the month!

We watched the Disney show, “The Secret of Bees“, and it got me even more excited. It’s a remarkable documentary that everyone should see. I have an even greater appreciation for these critical creatures.
Project #3: Chickens. Jim Bob needs to get the old chicken coop back in order soon because I want chickens again. I miss fresh eggs.
Our dorper sheep babies are growing like the weeds in the garden and their mommas are starting to lose some weight. Our young friend will be taking the babies soon to start working with them to show.
The llamas continue to do their job of eating and protecting the sheep. They remain skittish but I continue to see progress in their gaining our trust. Just looking at them makes me smile.
